About Elena by herself:

I graduated from the MG class of 2021. Retired after nineteen years at BC, teaching the Russian language, and before that in several other schools, I wanted to continue with my second passion: gardening. Looking back, I realized that being a teacher of such a difficult language like Russian taught me first of all, to be patient and have a vision and many smaller goals on the way. This helped me to create my own garden in spite of many obstacles. Second, what influenced me is the style of English gardens. Born in Latvia, Riga, a picturesque European country by the Baltic sea, I have realized that the style of gardens that was popular in this part of the world was English influenced. I was drawn to this style intuitively without knowing where it came from until my visit to England. Many people helped me in the process of creating my garden. I also learned a few “tricks of the trade” like how to lay the rocks into the wall, how to build a patio or a terrace. Not everything always went smooth. A broken nose, several operations on my hands, and my husband's broken ankle that is still in recovery after four operations in the last two years did not really slow me down.
